About Colin McLelland MSc MCSP BSc (Hons) PG Cert Fellow HEA
Clinical Director and Head of Performance Services.
Owner and Director of Back2Fitness Scotland Ltd, Colin is dual qualified as both a Sports Scientist and Chartered Physiotherapist.
Colin has a wealth of experience and knowledge working in professional sport as a player, coach and clinician. Having been forced to retire from professional rugby due to injury, Colin is able to empathise with all athletes when injuries occur and can share in their frustrations when unable to compete or train. Colin has always focused his career on excellence both in the sporting and medical world, and provides the best service to every individual.
Having spent over 8 years as Head Physiotherapist for Hibernian Football Club, Colin also previously worked for the Scottish Football Association, the Scottish Rugby Union and in private sports science and medical practices, working with many elite and world class athletes as well as the general public.
Colin has also previously worked as a personal trainer and fitness manager as well as coached to a high level in a variety of sports.
Colin is a Musculoskeletal (MSK) specialist and focussing on the prevention, and rehabilitation of injuries and also applies his vast knowledge in the development of personal and team athletic performances. He is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine (ACPSM), the Football Medical and Performance Association (FMPA), the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES) and the Association of Foot and Ankle Physiotherapists as well as others.
He uses a number of evidence based techniques and methods in his assessment and treatment of injuries, and applies his knowledge and experience to deliver a first class service to all clients. He is very proactive in pre-habilitation, identifying and resolving problems before they occur.
Colin is also an academic and active researcher (who is undertaking his PhD), and is also a Fellow of the Higher Educational Academy. As well as working at Back2Fitness, Colin is also a Lecturer in Physiotherapy and Deputy Director for the school of Health and Social Sciences at Edinburgh Napier University, and was part of the development team for the new MSc Physiotherapy programme which started in 2019. Previously he was a Lecturer in Physiotherapy at The Robert Gordon University for over 6 years, teaching on both post graduate and undergraduate courses.
He is also consultant to many professional and elite sports clubs and individuals in both the United Kingdom and Europe, and as such has gained a number of adulations and awards as well developing an excellent reputation as a clinical expert.
As an experienced sports scientist and member of BASES, Colin also leads the performance consultancy services at Back2Fitness, which provides private consultancy for Sports teams and athletes of all levels.
Colin has also appeared on many media outlets (including Sky Sports News, BBC, STV as well as other printed press) as a clinical expert on sporting injuries, treatment, prevention, recovery and performance strategies.
He is proud and passionate about his profession and delivering an excellent service for all.

It was my vision to offer a service whereby everyone could receive the same services that professional athletes receive. This service should be holistic in nature, with all clinicians in all disciplines working together to achieve the best outcome for the client. My dream has finally materialised in the form of Back2Fitness.
