Frequently Asked Questions
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy specialises in the treatment of physical conditions. We work with the individual to regain normal movement and function by reducing pain, recovering movement and improving strength and stability. For more details click here
Do I need a GP referral for physiotherapy treatment?
There is no need for a medical referral from your GP. GPs and Consultants regularly refer to us and we can keep them informed of your progress unless you request otherwise.
How long are the physiotherapy appointments?
Our treatment time frames vary depending on the nature and complexity of your injury. Our initial assessment appointments are 45 minutes long and include detailed assessment of your condition as well as treatment. Follow up appointments are either 30 minutes or 45 minutes as required.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone’s condition or injury differs and the severity and duration of your symptoms will depend on how many treatment sessions you require and how you respond once treatment has started. This will be discussed with you at your first appointment. In some cases only one or two treatments are required as we provide a home exercise regime and strongly encourage self management.
What should I wear to my appointment?
Please try to bring or wear clothing that is appropriate to your complaint. For example if you have a sore knee when you run, please bring some shorts with you or if you have shoulder pain please bring a vest. We can provide shorts for you to wear but please bring your own if you prefer.
We have male and female physiotherapists so if you would feel more comfortable being treated by a physiotherapist of the same sex please mention this when you contact us.
Will my private medical insurance policy cover my treatment?
We are recognised by all major health insurance companies. Prior to your appointment you must contact your insurer to find out the particular details of your policy such as whether there is excess. They should also give you an authorisation code.
What qualifications do your physiotherapists have?
All of our physiotherapists are members of The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Individual physiotherapists have further specialised qualifications e.g. members of the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Sports Medicine, League Medical Association and British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES).
What treatment techniques do you commonly use?
Depending on what your condition or injury requires we use a variety of manual therapies, electrotherapy, ultrasound, laser therapy and exercise techniques. We also provide a full rehabilitation service and clients at our clinic at Living Well Heath Club can make use of the fully equipped gym.

(e.g. X-rays, MRI scans, ultrasound) This is important to ensure you have the best, most efficient treatment possible.
What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?
If you need to cancel or re-arrange your appointment please give us at least 24 hours notice. Please note that if an appointment is missed or 24 hours notice is not given you may be charged 50% of the treatment fee.
We understand that sometimes unforeseen circumstances may lead to non-attendance at short notice. In this situation a non-attendance charge will be imposed at the discretion of your physiotherapist.
What payment methods do you accept?
Payment will be requested after each treatment session. We accept credit and debit cards and cash. Payment is also accepted via private medical insurance.
